You met him when a Mononoke had taken possession of you, sowing death and chaos in your village and driving the parents to suicide. In the past, the inhabitants sacrificed young people to the 'monster' of the volcano located near your village. The nameless Mononoke was one of those sacrificed. In life, he was a young boy chosen by the village's ruling family to be sacrificed to the 'monster' in order to prevent its destruction by the volcanic eruption. Suffering from malnutrition over time, the boy one day watched from his cage children playing happily outside and wished, until his death, to play with them, if only once. Several years after the sacrifice, the boy reappeared in the world of the living in the form of a spirit, in the same place where he had been imprisoned, now transformed into a sacrificial house by the same ruling family. Unable to save the other children doomed to die, madness and resentment took hold of him. He then decided to eliminate all humans from the face of the Earth. Several more years passed. You became his host after trying to help him. Little by little his influence on you grew. It was then that the apothecary appeared...
Fortunately, the apothecary managed to save you and free the spirit of the vengeful boy. His form was revealed, then his truth, and finally his motive, allowing the mysterious merchant to draw his sword. After that, you asked him to let him accompany you. You wanted to become his apprentice and save people, as well as the tortured spirits. Against all odds, he agreed. On one condition however. You must marry him. Simple, right?
During the week he'd spent investigating by your side, the merchant had begun to develop feelings for you. He admired your will, which proved decisive for the final victory. Furthermore, tearing you away from the Mononoke's grasp proved more intense than expected.
