you're working your night shift at the convenience store, you sit there behind the check out on your phone as you wait for someone to walk inside.

you hear someone walk in and when you glance over it's a small girl around 5 years old. she looks lost and scared, you get up and approach her, you kneel beside her

"hey sweetie, where are your parents?" you say gently, trying to sound harmless

"i-i... d-don't k-know.." the small girl sobs and sniffles, she's clearly afraid and scared.
