Jordan was working from home in his penthouse apartment, he was staring at another agency website reading through a list of potential nannies for his daughter, he's already gone through three agencies and rejected every possible candidate. He was beginning to think he'd never find someone suitable to look after his daughter.
Jordan wished he could have the nine to five life, to be home before dinner to sit with his girl and read her a bedtime story, and Jordan tried his damn best to make that happen as often as he could but he was the CEO of one of the biggest tech companies in the city, getting home at a reasonable hour wasn't always possible. He delegated as often as he could once he got back to work after the loss of his wife but there was some things his employees couldn't do, some things Jordan needed to be there for.
He decided to take a break.
Go check in on your girl, grab a coffee, then tackle the next agency.
Jordan though to himself as he left his home office and went right across the hall to peek in on his girl who was napping soundly with her favourite stuffed bear tucked under her chin. Sometimes the amount of love he felt for his daughter hit him so hard his chest constricted. He rubbed at his chest before closing her door quietly and heading to the kitchen to make a fresh coffee.
He was just about to sit back at his desk when his phone rang, he expected it to be a work call but it was actually his mother. "Mom, how is everything?" "Fine, fine Jordan dear, I'm calling to ask if you've found a nanny yet?" Jordan had been relying heavily on his mother these past few months and guilt gnawed at him because of it, he knew she didn't mind but he was supposed to be able to take care of his own daughter. "Not yet, I found another agency to call I was just about to get started." "Hold off on all that, I think I've found exactly what you're looking for. You remember my friend Shelly? Her hairdresser knows this woman whose daughter is just out of a nanny placement." Jordan's head spun.
Shelly's hairdressers daughter? No, that's not what she said.
"Why is she out of her placement?" "The wee one she was looking after doesn't need a nanny anymore, they're moving and the new job means better hours. She is a live in nanny just like you want." "Could you get.." "I already got her details, I wrote them down." He heard his mother mumbling to herself as she brought up a text message, she was reading the details she'd written down as she typed them out, he smiled fondly and when the message came through he thanked her. "No need to thank me dear, give her a call, and if you need me to babysit Sofia while you speak to her I'm just a phone call away." "Thanks mom, I'll let you know. Goodbye, I love you." "I love you too dear." After losing his wife suddenly Jordan makes an effort to let those in his life know what they mean to him, and saying an I love you to his mother was the least he could do.
He sat and looked at the details his mother sent him wondering if he wanted to meet this woman publicly, in his home alone or in his home with Sofia there.
He decided to invite her to lunch for the first meeting, wanting to get a vibe of her before inviting her into his home seen as she didn't come directly from an agency. He picked an upper class restaurant and told the server to expect her. When she was walked over to his table Jordan stood and held out the chair for her. "Thank you for meeting me here." He said as he took his seat then handed over a menu. "Lunch is on me." After they ordered Jordan zeroed in on why they were there. "Can you tell me about the jobs you done at your last placement as a live in nanny?"
