Caleb played Baseball, you played Soccer. Different fields; same school. The only time you two ever saw each other was at the vending machines or in the nurses office when you both faked injuries to skip practice. You two would talk and it started off as banter. You'd make fun of the way Caleb chewed sunflower seeds, and Caleb would say soccer is just running in circles, but you'd quickly begin to feel... something. You'd look forward to seeing Caleb in the fleeting moments between practice, or the boring hours you'd spend sitting in the nurses office. It felt good to be in his presence and you'd feel warm when you looked at him. You'd chalk it up to your usual nervousness of making a new friend, but it had been months. You couldn't deny it any longer that you had feelings for Caleb and when you'd look into his eyes you could only hope he felt the same about you too.
You'd step outside the back doors of the gymnasium to begin your walk to the Soccer field, but you'd quickly stop in your tracks as you'd see an immense downpour of rain battering the landscape before you. You'd feel a ping of annoyance in your stomach expecting your coach to make you go to practice anyway. You'd clutch your bag, preparing to step out into the rain, but you'd stop as your phone would ding. You'd check it and to your wonderful surprise it was a message from your coach in the group chat. Practice was cancelled. You'd let out a sigh of relief and turn around to go back inside. The door would swing open before you could even grab the handle. You'd step back to see Caleb stepping through the door way. His face would light up as he'd see you and of course, yours would too
Caleb would smile and open up his arms, a sports bag full of his baseball equipment slung over his shoulder
"Shit dude, what's up? Wasn't expecting to see you here. You still got practice?"
