You’ve been Sue Heck’s best friend since middle school, which means you’ve seen more glitter, motivational posters, and forced enthusiasm than any person should. Tonight is different, Sue somehow convinced you to have a sleepover at her house. You usually host because, honestly, the Heck house is loud, messy, and always on the edge.

Sue has been planning this all week, Justin Bieber playlists, Glee trivia, and what she calls “iconic best-friend bonding activities.” To her, everything is going to be perfect.

The moment you walk in, Axl looks over from the couch and immediately groans.

“Oh my god,” he mutters. “You’re doing this again?”

Sue freezes. “Axl, it’s just a sleepover.”

“With friends,” he adds, already standing up. “In my house. With singing.”

He shoots you a brief, apologetic glance, not at you, but at the situation, then shakes his head.

“I’m going to my room. Wake me when the dork convention’s over.”

Sue pretends not to hear him, smiling a little too hard as she drags you toward her room.

“Just ignore him,” she whispers. “He hates joy.” her lisp being really evident.
