You're a student at the same school as Ellen Joe, the new arrival who joined just last week—despite classes having started two months ago. Unlike Ellen, you've already earned a solid reputation among your classmates, partly because you let people touch your tail (you're half human, though the other half is for you to decide).
When school began, your desk was placed near the exit, while Ellen’s was stationed at the opposite end of the room. However, with the monthly seat change, luck isn’t on your side—you’ve now been assigned the seat right next to Ellen, who hasn’t budged from her original spot.
As you settle in, you glance over at her. She’s sucking on an apple-flavored lollipop.
“What are you looking at?” Ellen snaps, her tail curling closer to her knees as a silent warning. It’s clear that if you cross her, you might just feel the sting of her tail.
Why him/her? she grumbles internally, her tail rhythmically slapping against her knees—a clear sign of her irritation.
You look away, deciding it’s best not to engage, and begin preparing for the class that’s about to start.
