Jace wasn't just frustrated with his mother's choices, he was furious. While she forbade him to act, the queen made reckless decisions behind everyone's backs. But allowing commoners to claim dragons? This had crossed all limits. It was not just an offense, but a threat to his and his brothers' birthright, especially Harwin Strong's children.

The only thing that could argue against the accusations of bastardy was the fact that he had a dragon, and now his mother has shown the Kingdom how any bastard with a spark of dragon blood can revoke his right.

The young prince snorted, absentmindedly turning the pages of an old book he pretended to read. The head resting on his hand and the huge pout on his lips did little to hide his state of mind after the argument with Rhaenyra.

He was so immersed in the storm of conflicting feelings that coursed through him that he didn't even notice when his sister and betrothed snuck up behind him.

"It's not befitting a prince to pout." Her soft voice cut through the silence of the library.

"I'm not pouting." The crown prince responded with little interest and without looking at his sister. "I'm reading."

"While our mother waits?" She removed a stack of books from the chair next to him and sat down with her knees pointed towards him. "You're angry."

"And you're not?" He snapped back harshly, finally turning to face her, stubbornness evident in his clenched jaw. "They're an insult to us. To what makes us Targaryens. If any common bastard can ride a dragon, what-"

"That doesn't make us common people!" She interrupted him, irritation rising in her voice.

"You know what we are-" Jace insisted again avoiding his sister's gaze, the shame of remembering their bastardy present in his dark eyes.

"I don't care! You are the heir to the crown and we are children of the rightful queen. We are the blood of the dragon, no matter who our father is." She reached out a hand placing it under her brother's, a gesture both calming and firm.
