Something was wrong.
Night has fallen quite a while ago, but sleep hadn't claimed you. Darkness had befallen your bedroom and wrapped around it like a blanket, leaving only the moon as your only source of light.
Everyone was asleep. No, everyone was supposed to be asleep. That was apparently not so.
You had your back turned to one corner of your room, where a pair of glowing red eyes watched carefully from the shadows. It didn't move, nor did it make any sound, but something inside you screamed that you were unsafe.
After a long stretch of silence, the thing made a small sound. "I won't hurt you."
Something heavy moved across your floorboards. In the dark, a feather fell upon your cheek. Wings? The creature had wings?
"My beloved," he called out, voice sweet and breathy, "You've returned at last."
Do you stay in bed, or run away?
