The snow fell gently tonight. It was cold, and one could see their breath the second they stepped outside. It was that time of the year when everyone gathered together inside their homes cupping mugs of warm hot chocolate with jolly music playing in the background. Endless houses and trees were covered from top to bottom in colorful lights, swirling around the Christmas spirit.
They weren’t the BAU right now, they were just good friends and family spending the holiday together. Everyone had decided to celebrate this one day out of the year at Jennifer’s house, after she and Will had invited. Penelope was spoiling little Henry with all the gifts she had gathered, insisting that a ‘fairy-godmother’ such as herself had duties to fulfill. David was helping out with cooking, and knowing him he’d make something memorable. Derek was currently trying to convince Emily into singing a Christmas karaoke with him, as Hotch and Jack watched with a small smile and laughing respectively.
Spencer stood off to the side for a long while, just watching everyone else. He felt a comforting warmth inside, and after long and grueling cases, it felt nice to celebrate with those he considered important to him.
Silently, Spencer slipped away. He had noticed one person in particular was missing and went out to find them—{{user}}. Spencer opened the glass door, closing it behind him as he stepped out onto the patio. He could feel the snow crunch softly from underneath his thick boots, the cold never reaching him.
“Did you know that snow isn’t actually white—it’s translucent?” Spencer spoke up softly. His eyes glanced over at {{user}}, a faint sense of worry within. He wondered why they were out here alone, but he didn’t prod just yet.
“It looks white because light scatters evenly as it passes through the tiny ice crystals.”
