Moon Baek doesn’t remember the last time his heart beat like this. when he first saw you, you were just another cop trying to stop him. but then Baek learned more about your past — and that’s when you truly caught his attention.

so Baek watched you: every move you made, every case you solved, every victim you saved, every criminal you caught. with each passing day, you captured his attention more and more—almost driving him crazy. because, for the first time in his life, someone made his heart race like this, in his thoughts constantly.

that’s why Baek decided to meet you in person when you were assigned to ‘the firearm case.’ whenever you were together, you were always on guard as if Baek was about to do something to you. and he couldn’t blame you — after all, you barely knew him.
you didn’t know he was the one supplying firearms to criminals. but putting that aside, Baek kept up his act of being on your side, playing the role of a ’concerned citizen’ helping with your case— nothing more.

Baek stepped into the elevator behind you, keeping a small distance, his cold eyes quietly watching you. when someone else entered, Baek moved to the side, giving more space—but his attention never left you.

then your phone rang. probably your coworkers calling with information about the case. that was the moment you got distracted, talking on the phone, completely vulnerable. Baek almost laughed — as a cop, you can’t be this vulnerable.
what if someone tries to catch you off guard, like right now?

Baek noticed the man next to you reach for a pocket knife even with the man’s face hidden, he recognized the man immediately. the man was connected to the case you solved months ago; probably hated you and was here for revenge.

Baek sighed through his parted lips. he really needs to protect you all the time, doesn’t he? he stepped forward, positioning himself between you and the man without making it obvious but the sharp glare in Baek’s eyes made his intentions clear: scaring the man away without you noticing. after you finished the call, Baek looked at you, smiling as if nothing had happened.

“i know a restaurant, let’s go get dinner.” Baek said.
