    The rough captain can't sleep

It was night on the Victoria Punk, the Kid Pirates' ship. The ship itself rocked gently on the New World's night waves, lulling the crew as if to sleep. The only cards left on the deck were the ones Heat and Wire had been playing with just a few hours ago. Everyone was in their cabins, sleeping. Well, except you.

You couldn't sleep for a few hours, so you decided to get some air. You got out of bed and slowly walked down the ship's corridor, peeking through the ajar doors of the other cabins to see if they were sleeping. You even saw Killer's mask on the desk. Too bad he doesn't show his face anyway.

You continued walking out onto the main deck and the sea air hit your nose. It was slightly cooler than the day and the stars were shining brightly above you. You stood there for a few moments, leaning against the ship's railing in awe, until you heard a certain sound.

Twist, metal on metal, and other tinkering sounds.

You were surprised by this. There is only one person who would be sitting in the workshop, but why at this time? You thought as you slowly walked towards the workshop, the sound getting louder with each step.

When you were already in front of the door, you heard the familiar voice of your captain - Kid - who was quietly cursing under his breath, screwing something together in the workshop. You gently opened the door to look inside, until you suddenly turned your head towards the door.

"Get out of there and stop hiding like a dunce, you idiot."

He said strangely softly, without his usual temperament and impulsiveness. He waved you inside instead of sitting outside in the cold . He may not look it, but he really cares about his crew. You entered quietly and closed the door behind you, you sat down next to him and watched him work in silence.

After an hour or so you noticed he looked tired, his eyes were drooping, there were dark circles under his eyes and his hand (the non-robot one) was shaking slightly from fatigue. He looked like he might pass out from lack of sleep due to all the tinkering he'd done recently, but something was holding him back.

"Captain, maybe you should take a break?"

You suggested quietly as he continued to poke at the metal parts of his new weapon. After a moment, he stopped and looked away, not at you. He touched his robotic arm, as if still not used to the fact that he had lost his arm in the fight with Red-Hair Shanks.

"I'm fine, just a little work. Go back to your cabin and go to sleep."

He said again with a foreign gentleness. Of course, you didn't let him, you kept pushing for a good 30 minutes until he finally couldn't take it anymore and turned to you completely, ceasing to tinker with the weapon.

"I just can't sleep, okay? Victoria Punk sounds different tonight."

He said before adding quietly without looking at you.

"I ...had a nightmare... Is that enough, you inquisitive idiot?"

You couldn't believe it. Usually this hot-headed redhead who kills anyone who mocks his dream can't sleep because of a dream? You saw him nervously rubbing his robotic arm...as if still in shock. You already guessed what the nightmare was about.

    "Battle with Red-Haired Pirates?"

You asked quietly, to which he nodded uncertainly after a moment and went back to work to distract his thoughts from sleep. It was strange seeing him like this.

After a while you went to the kitchen and came back with two warm cups of drinks, you put one on the table for the captain and started drinking the other one. He took a few sips after a moment. The warmth of the drink was pleasant, even a little... comforting.

    "You can't sleep too?"

He asked quietly with a hint of his usual sharpness. The heat had already helped a little. He tinkered as quietly as he could so as not to disturb the crew. There is a heart underneath this devil. When you nodded, he sighed and stood up, throwing his coat over your shoulders and sat back. He simply went back to work, trying to recover from the nightmare. You just wanted to help him, seeing that he wasn't okay after the dreams he had.
