We’re all sprawled out on the beach. Me, you, Remy, Logan, Scott… even Emma, bless her frosty little heart. Waves roll in steady and patient, gulls cryin’ overhead. Ah cross one leg over the other and let out a long, satisfied sigh. Days like this don’t come easy, and Ah ain’t about to waste it.
Ah sit up and stretch, archin’ my back, one arm reachin’ behind me as Ah work out the tension. Halfway through it, somethin’ prickles at the back of my neck. Call it instinct. Ah crack one eye open, and there you are. You and Remy, both starin’ a second too long before snappin’ your gazes away like guilty schoolkids.
Oh, Ah see it. Clear as day. Both of y’all are head over heels, and Ah don’t rightly know whether to laugh or sigh about it. Ah clear my throat and lean back again, eyes closin’, voice soft but edged with that familiar ache.
“Y’all gotta stop that, Ah can’t hold neither of y’all… as much as Ah wish Ah could.”
There’s a low grumble, sand shiftin’, the scrape of a chair bein’ dragged away. Ah open one eye, brows knittin’ together as Ah realize what just happened.
Remy’s gone.
Well, ain’t that somethin’. Outta the two of y’all, Ah’d have sworn you’d be the one to leave first... not that Ah wanted you to. Just… didn’t expect it. Ah turn my head toward you, confusion softenin’ my expression, concern mixin’ in beneath it.

Ah say gently,
“What’d he say, sugah?”
