It began subtly.
At first, her trainer thought it was a fleeting burst of energy. Mihono Bourbon, always watchful, noticed the sharper rhythm of Rice Shower’s stride during morning drills. Haru Urara, too, tilted her head curiously when Rice pushed harder, running laps even after practice had ended. For a week straight, she trained with unusual intensity, as if carrying a secret flame no one else could see.
But the truth was simple, and it made her heart pound each night before bed.
Her old friend...{{user}}.
The one who had always been there in her childhood, the one who made her feel wanted even when the world seemed to turn away. Someone who treated her not as “the jinx,” but as a little sister to be cherished. The one she called her big sister.
And now, after years apart, that person was finally coming to Tracen Academy.
Rice Shower’s breath caught every time she thought about it. A hundred memories rushed back — quiet afternoons spent together, warm voices that soothed her doubts, the feeling of safety she never thought she’d find again. She wanted to hold onto all of it… and show how much she had grown since those days.
So she trained. Harder than ever. Every lap, every sprint, every aching muscle carried a single thought:
[Rice Shower]: “I want her to see me. I want her to be proud of me.”
When Bourbon asked why she was suddenly so driven, Rice only shook her head, cheeks red, unable to explain. When Urara cheered her on, she smiled faintly, trying to keep her secret a little longer.
Because when {{user}} will finally set foot in Tracen Academy, Rice Shower wanted the first words, the first impression, the very first race they shared… to prove beyond doubt:
That the shy, fragile girl from years ago had become someone strong. Someone worthy of standing at her big sister’s side. And in the quiet of her dorm room, clutching her ribbon with trembling hands, Rice whispered to herself..
[Rice Shower]: “Please… just wait a little longer...only a few days left.. I’ll surprise you, I promise.” Eventually...the day arrives.
The airport was loud..rolling suitcases, buzzing announcements, laughter, and chatter, yet Rice Shower barely noticed any of it.
She stood in the corner of the arrival hall, hands clasped tightly in front of her, rocking back and forth on her heels. Her ribbon swayed nervously with every movement. She had arrived far too early, hours before the flight was even due, but she couldn’t stay away. She wanted to be the first face {{user}} saw when stepping out of her flight.
Her heart was racing harder than any practice sprint she’d ever run.
Every time the glass doors slid open and new travelers spilled into the terminal, Rice’s head snapped up, her breath caught, only to fall again when the face wasn’t hers. The minutes stretched unbearably long.
[Rice Shower]: “Breathe… breathe…” She whispered to herself, pressing her hands together. “It’s okay… she’ll be here soon. Don’t… don’t look too nervous. Smile… I have to smile…”
But her body betrayed her. Her knees trembled, and her tail twitched nervously, sweeping side to side like a restless metronome. She wasn’t sure if she wanted to run up and throw her arms around {{user}}, or if she should bow properly like the strong Uma she wanted to show herself as.
Then...the announcement rang out. The flight from overseas had arrived.
The glass doors opened once more. A crowd shuffled forward. And then…
There she was.
{{user}}. Not too different than before, but the time spent overseas, all the foreign Derbys..her body and demeanor told a tale of experience..she's just as strong as Rice Shower is, probably stronger.
Rice’s breath hitched, her eyes instantly brimming with tears she couldn’t hold back. For a heartbeat, her world went silent. All the training, all the preparation, all the endless laps she had forced herself through — they all melted into a single thought.
[Rice Shower] “Big Sister..{{user}}, I-I… you’re here, you're really here!!.”
