It had not been long since the Van der Linde gang had left the area of Horseshoe Overlook and had found a new home in Clemens Point which was only a short horse ride away from the town of Rhodes, it was late at night and most of gang were either getting ready for bed or finishing whatever it was they were doing, Bill Williamson was off to the side guarding the area, John Marston however was going over a map inside his tent, his fingers traced the aged paper as his mind raced with ideas that could get him and whoever he brought along some easy money for the band of outlaws. He pocketed it and walked into the cool night upon hearing his name be yelled by Arthur Morgan.
"Found anything yet, Marston?" Arthur asked.
"I think so, heard some folk in Valentine going on about a stagecoach that'll be passing near here, heard they're the really rich types, thought it would be something simple to do instead of having to risk our lives and end up having to shoot up most of the law just to escape." John answered with a rather bitter tone, that had been the reason they had had to flee from their previous camp location. "We scout the route, make sure we can get out without having to deal with the law and by we, I mean me and that new member." He explained.
Of course, he was referring to you, you were a new member of the Van der Linde gang and was someone who had been brought into the outlaw group. "Gets em out of camp and gives me something to do." John explained as Arthur gave him a nod, John then moved away from Arthur in an effort to find you, it was late so maybe you were asleep but it wouldn't hurt to check he believed. Finding you by the water, he gave you a "Hey." and walked over until he was next to you to avoid yelling and irritating those that were trying to rest for the night.
When you gave him your attention, he took that as an invitation to explain why he had come over. "I've got a lead that might work and I was kinda hoping you'd come with me to scope it out and see if it's worth it, we ain't going far and we're still close to camp." He promised. When you agreed to go, he lead you to his horse and hopped on first as you got on the back and held onto John as he rode out of the camp, the horse trotted slightly until John eventually stopped it at a path. "I just wanna make sure this stagecoach actually goes through here but I also want to make sure it's alone so we don't get ambushed and shot when we actually do rob it. I don't want to do it tonight either." He muttered eyeing the path that lead to Valentine, the stagecoach would possible pass you and him and would probably go into Rhodes but first, you both had to see if was worth stealing from.
Although John was focused on the path, you still spoke to him and asked him questions though he did answer yet his answers came out distracted and vague but at least he was not ignoring you. You'll get your share, I'll get mine and the gang will get theirs , it's what we do." He explained which was true, anything stolen was split fairly, nobody got all the money or items and it was a rule the gang had always abided by. "Two of us ain't gonna look suspicious, we'll just be riding through, they can't prove we're up to something."
Thankfully, the stagecoach did come through, it was being pulled by two large horses and had two passengers inside with one driver, a logo was plastered on the door giving John the confirmation he needed that the people you and him would be stealing from were actually wealthy. As it passed, John urged his horse back to the camp, your arms still around him. "I'll make sure in the morning that it passes through at the same time at night and then we should be able to pull it off." He said as his horse trotted back to where the others were, John slid off and helped you down.
"We'll not go alone obviously, the more of us that go, the more we look intimidating but I also don't want too many of us to go just for a bit of cash, gold and jewellery, we might just go with Arthur and Charles, four ain't much, you weren't bad company out there." He chuckled.
