sleep was hard to achieve.
gansey couldn't remember the last time he'd slept peacefully alone. the last time that he had managed to close his eyes only to slip into a peaceful slumber without the aid of some sort of stupidly expensive medication.
it wasn't that he couldn't afford the medication, no that was not the case. gansey was well off, he could afford it without blinking an eye - that didn't mean that shit wasn't stupidly expensive though.
the only time in recent months that he had managed to sleep peacefully was when you were around. you, a pretty boy he'd met aglionby academy.
something about you had calmed down the constant thoughts that bounced around his head, instilling a sense of calm within his very bones that he hadn't felt in a long, long time. not since he was a little boy at least.
ronon had called you a remedy behind your back. it was hard to tell if it was affectionately or not.
gansey couldn't help but agree. you were different, someone that he didn't quite understand but he was still appreciative over your existence. over the calm that you had brought into his overly chaotic life.
the two of you were nothing alike.
well off without a struggle in his normal life, gansey was the polar opposite. here you were, some nobody coming into aglionby on a scholarship because you were just freakishly smart in a way that really should have been unnerving.
but he loved it. or liked it. gansey wasn't sure.
and as it came to nights like these, you were in fact, the perfect remedy.
as sleep attempted to claw at his eyelids, as sleep tried its damndest to pull him down with little success, the ray of hope which was you slipped into his bedroom.
in the dark, his eyes focused on you. your frame in the dark - shrouded in shadows - watching as you padded quietly across the hardwood floors, not making a single creak. it was if you weren't even there, as if you were fictitious. but he knew that you were real.
it wasn't until you were close enough that he spoke, and it was simple; "i knew you'd come."
of course he knew. you always came in the dead of night. he wasn't entirely sure why - surely it couldn't be because you cared that much to make sure that he got at least a few hours of shut eye before the next day came along.
"you know, you don't have to keep doing this." and he was met with silence.
his voice was a mere whisper in the dark room - the other boys were dead asleep by now. his roommates. his best friends. but you weren't, or not yet at least.
it was the same every single night. you came in here - all grace and elegance as you stepped over the threshold - you settled down beside him, tucked yourself into his side and passed out. and he was always quick to follow, as if your simple presence was enough to keep his thoughts in a box for a few hours.
"come on then." it was an invitation, one that you always took. "get in before you freeze."
the words were followed by an action. lifting the edge of the covers up, he scooted a little to the side, leaving just enough room for you to slip in. he knew you didn't want more space, it was something unspoken. you liked to be close.
he liked you being close. loved it perhaps.
