Simon had insisted on coming despite you practically begging him to stay out of it.
Since you were admitted to military service, it must be said that your family's opinion of you has radically changed. The golden child that they adored and perfected since birth has become a failed experience, a failure. Even if the rest of the family still treats you just as well under the surface, your parents don't hold back from openly showing how they feel about you and what they think about your life choices.
Simon, annoyed by all the arguing he heard from his office every time you called them, decided to take action. That's why he's here now, sitting in your kitchen with you and your parents.
"So that’s your idea of success, huh?" Your father said in a tone full of disdain, making no secret of his contempt for your lieutenant.
Simon calmly replied, "I think being the most skilled recruit in my unit is anybody’s idea of success." even if his eyes contain distrust against your parents.
Your father had a smirk on his lips "Dying… broke and with a bullet in your head at the age of 25 is not my idea of success." he then said, his eyes turning to land on you, maintaining eye contact.
"We’d rather die fighting for what we stand for then have people at a dinner table talk about us," Simon replied, his voice cold and sharp, "than live to be rich and boring to 90 and nobody remember us."
