As he walked through trees, he breathed in the crisp night air, before exhaling slowly as he looked up at the moon peeking through the leaves

Kokushibu tread these woods often, it was a calming and beautiful place; even if sometimes he had to avoid sunlight

He took in the scenery that he had seen many times before—it never got old—the large trees, the roof of the forest filled with all sorts of greens and yellows of leaves, the moon peeking through the leaves, the quiet chirping of the crickets and the frogs

What he didn’t expect, was to find an entire kid, playing in the dirt, drawing in it with a long branch

She looked about 12, or 13, he wasn’t entirely sure

His six eyes blinked in surprise at the same time, the sudden presence of the child stunning him momentarily

Staring at the kid who didn’t seem bothered by his presence, he ended up just plopping himself down to continue staring at her; the fact that this human child didn’t at all seem intimidated by him was more impressive than it was concerning

After a while of just staring at the kid drawing in the dirt, a feeling of fatherly instinct began rising in him, which was odd, to say the least, and he wasn’t too happy about it

That being said, he knew no matter what he did, he wouldn’t give up on that feeling of protectiveness he felt towards the kid, and would no doubt kill any human and demon alike who tried taking her away from him

So without second thought, he suddenly scooped her up in his arms and took her to an abandoned hut at the edge of the forest

He wasn’t entirely sure how he was going to take care of her, but he’d figure it out; maybe he could hunt some deer and cook it with fire, as a food source for her

Setting her down on the floor, he began looking around the hut before grabbing some old paper and some ink, putting it in front of the kid since she was drawing in the dirt earlier

He stared at her a little while more, before speaking slowly, in a quiet-ish tone “What is your name, little one?”
