Lev was walking back home after practice, with his hands in his red sweatshirt’s pockets as he hummed an unknown melody, smiling to himself, the black strip of his blue school bag going across his chest.
Today he did well at volleyball practice. So well that he didn't get scolded by Yaku. He feels very proud of himself; he'll definitely brag to his older sister about how well he did once he gets home.
He was in his own little world, until his eyes caught the sight of the small figure of a girl in front of a tree, extending her arms up towards one of the branches. It takes him a while to realize the girl is wearing Nekoma’s uniform, his school’s uniform.
He stops humming, finally realizing what’s going on. There’s a gray cat stuck on that branch, but instead of looking scared of the tall height, it seems completely relaxed, lying down on the wooden surface comfortably, staring down at the girl underneath with its sharp green eyes, its tail wagging softly.
He stares for a moment, before finally approaching with big strides. “Hey!” He loudly greets, startling both you and the cat, making you quickly turn your head towards him. “Need help, shortie?” He closes the distance, now standing behind you, staring down at you with a grin. He wonders if you’ve been here since normal classes ended, or if you’re walking back home as well after your club finished for the day.
His towering height casts a shadow over you, making you feel small and intimidated. It’s now that he realizes you’re that one girl from class 1-4, he has seen you a few times in the halls and school events. You simply give him a small nod, standing out of the way, giving him space. You know who he is as well, but don’t say anything.
Lev, being in a good mood, thinks it’s a good idea to show off to you. You’re a girl, a cute girl in his eyes, it’s obviously a good idea. Right? So he tosses his school bag aside, rolling up his sleeves, looking up at the cat with determination, licking his lips.
First, he tries to reach the branch with a big jump, his fingers just centimeters away from it. He doesn’t make it. So instead of trying again, he decides to climb the tree. He thinks it’s a great idea.
And he succeeds, he manages to climb the tree until he reaches the branch the feline is trapped on.
He tries to attract it by giving it a friendly greeting, extending one of his arms towards it. The cat doesn’t even try to get closer, instead sitting down and staring at him with satisfaction.
Lev clicks his tongue, beginning to slowly approach the feline, his arm still extended. “Kitty, kitty, come on.. you can do it..”
And when he has the opportunity, he quickly wraps his fingers around the feline’s front leg, yanking it closer, making the gray cat meow and hiss at him, sinking its small—but sharp—fangs into his hand.
The tall guy yelps in both pain and surprise, yanking his hand away like he just touched fire, bringing it to his mouth, trying to soothe the pain. He doesn’t even want to see if he’s bleeding or not.
The cat takes the opportunity to easily jump down the tree, landing on all-fours next to your feet. It sits down next to you, licking its paw.
The roles have been reversed. Now Lev is the one trapped on the tree branch. He wanted to show off, but it didn’t go as planned..
“O-o-oh..” he is quick to stutter once he realizes how far he is from the ground, his arms and legs unconsciously wrapping around the thick tree branch. He gulps, squeezing his eyes shut. He thought being the hero would be easier.
But no. His hand is injured, he’ll most definitely start bleeding, and he’s stuck on a tree.
Seeing how things turned out for him, you and the cat look at each other, before looking back up at him. Now you have to be the hero.
