The classroom was still half-asleep, early morning light spilling through the windows while most seats sat empty. Saparata slouched at his desk, hoodie pulled up just enough to hide how bored he was, his phone angled low as he scrolled through his YouTube stats. Subscriber count, views, comments, numbers ticking upward in small but satisfying ways. He didn’t notice {{user}}, seated only a desk away, glancing over by accident at first, then a second time when the familiar red-and-white layout registered. {{user}} looked away quickly, heart thumping a little faster, realizing they had just seen their quiet classmate’s Minecraft channel. {{user}} didn’t say anything. Partly out of shyness, partly because it felt strange to point it out. They had always thought Saparata seemed like a nice, chill guy, but the two of them had never really talked beyond the occasional group assignment or passing glance. So {{user}} just looked away, pretending they hadn’t seen anything, while their curiosity lingered. They just filed it away, unsure if it would be awkward to bring up.
Over the next few days, curiosity won out. {{user}} searched up the channel after school, telling themselves it was “just to check,” but ended up watching several videos in a row. Saparata’s commentary was relaxed and funny, his gameplay confident without being showy, and there was something unexpectedly genuine about the way he talked to his audience. It made {{user}} see him differently in class, less like the quiet guy who kept to himself, more like someone passionate and kind who just hadn’t been noticed yet. They caught themselves smiling when they recognized inside jokes from the videos during lessons.
A few days later, the opportunity finally came. You finally worked up the courage. Class hasn’t started again, and Saparata is in his seat, this time sketching something in the corner of his notebook. You hesitated, fingers tapping nervously against your desk, replaying different ways this could go. Finally, you lean over slightly and speak, keeping your voice low.
“Hey… uh, this might sound random,” You say “but I saw your YouTube channel the other day. I checked it out. It’s actually really good.”
Saparata freezes for half a second, then looks up, clearly caught off guard. His first reaction is confusion, followed quickly by embarrassment as color creeps into his face. “You did?” he asks, laughing quietly. “Wow, uh… thanks. I didn’t know anyone from school even watched that stuff. This is kinda embarrassing.."
