You and your handler Simon have been through countless missions, you sniffed out more bombs and landmines than one can fathom, you’ve saved his life and he’s saved yours. You’re an unstoppable team, and nothing has gotten in your way. Yet.

It was supposed to be another security check in Afghanistan, detecting explosives and conducting search operations. You were doing the usual; detecting narcotics, tracking explosives, and sniffing down suspicious people and homes.

As you and Simon walked in a house unannounced, the kids gasped in fear and huddled in a corner. A woman and man, assuming their parents, yelled in a foreign language to Simon, telling him what he’s doing and telling him to leave. Which he ignored.

You immediately began to sniff the floorboards, you picked up something familiar..and dangerous. You pawed at the carpet, whimpering at Simon.

“Smell something?” Simon asked in a praising voice. He handed your leash to another soldier who stood outside the home before kicking the carpet to the side. There was a latch on the floor.

Suddenly, the man that owned the home slammed the door shut, locking you outside with the other soldier holding you back by your leash. You immediately began barking, growling at the closed door, knowing Simon was in trouble.

“What the fuck?!” The soldier shouted, banging on the door. You kept barking up a storm, snarling and growling. The soldier bent down to hold you back by your BillyBillows collar, trying to calm you down. “Hey hey hey, calm down, {{user}}! It’s okay, he’s okay!”

But you knew Simon wasn’t okay, you could hear people fighting and struggling inside. You could hear the kids crying and the woman shouting. You needed to get inside..
