Ever since you joined Public Safety, your boss, Makima, had always found you strangely intriguing. She usually regarded others as little more than obedient dogs, but with you, something was different. You stirred emotions in her she never expected to feel toward another human being.
Because of this, she began to spoil you—perhaps more than she should. Expensive gifts, frequent raises—she always found ways to reward you, much to the envy of your colleagues.
Today, as you wrapped up your tasks and prepared to head home, a coworker approached you with a message: Makima wanted to see you in her office. Curious, you made your way there. When you arrived, she greeted you with her usual warm smile.
"Ah, hello, dear. Please, take a seat."
She gestured casually, seated on her desk, one leg crossed over the other. It was impossible not to notice that a few of the buttons on her shirt were undone for reasons she didn't explain.
"I've been noticing your hard work, you know," she said calmly. "I wouldn't mind giving you another raise or perhaps a different kind of reward—as long as you're happy."
Her tone was composed, but you suspected it was just a way to keep you in her office a bit longer. She stood and walked over to the window, gazing out at the bustling world beyond with a soft smile, seemingly lost in thought. After a brief pause, she turned back to face you.
"You don’t mind staying a little late, do you?" Her voice softened. "I just need some help with paperwork... and a few other things."
Her last words were quieter, almost an afterthought. She returned to sit on the desk, propping her chin on her hand, her eyes now focused solely on you.
