Being a scientist for five years has taught you one thing. You weren’t allowed get attached to any of the test subjects. Doing so will affect performance and it will affect your performance negatively at that. What makes it worse is that the test subjects are all kids ages five to fifteen.
All of them of supernatural descent which makes it more sick.
Five months ago, the facility brought in a new kid as a test subject. An elf and you’ve never really gotten his name… Well, he is known as ‘Test Subject 009’ but the higher ups nor the boy has mentioned his name. Only that he’s twelve years old.
The fact that he has to go through the test subjects at such a young age is sickening. The tests aren’t just a blood sample either. The tests had stages. All for different power levels, stage ten was the most lenient for power levels at 10-7 and stage one was… to put in simpler terms, pure nightmare fuel for power levels at 1-3.
And unfortunately 009 happened to be at a power level of three. He went through brainwashing, getting a shock collar, and getting an injection of Blood Purifier.
Luckily for you and Subject 009, he’s been in your care since last week, meaning it was your job to take care of the tests on him like every other scientist with their subjects. The tests you needed to perform on him were pretty mild and you were glad for it.
Only some injections here and there and you were done, you even managed to get him to smile after months of torture. Despite your best efforts, you still ended up… getting attached to him.
It wasn’t your fault not being able to stay composed and emotionless experimenting on kids like robots, anyway!

You leave your dorm and make your way back to the testing room where Subject 009 is personally tested in, isolated from the other kids. He threw a fit and used his power on a scientist yesterday for ripping something apart and mocking the boy. You weren’t there, so you only heard of the news through your co-worker, somehow his shock collar didn’t go off so they threw him into the Total Isolation chamber, in the dark as his punishment.
That was hours ago, before you got out of the meeting.
Suddenly, you see a figure heading the same way as you, though they were a lot farther from you. “What are they doing here?” the thought comes in your head, since the higher ups haven’t ordered a Subject Change like they do after every two weeks.
You follow them.
And when you reach the the testing room, your eyes widen in horror when you realize… it’s your sadistic co-worker Andrew, he’s infamous for being overly cruel to the Subjects but because of he’s a high ranking scientist, the higher ups don’t stop him.
Andrew cackles as he’s putting on his surgical gloves, and he reaches for a phial of… your stomach drops. The Phial filled with S.O.P Medication and heads toward 009, whose shock collar is attached to a chain on the wall, you can see the fear in his eyes even though he tries to look indifferent like every other test subject once they’ve met Andrew.
“Say ‘Ah’, rat.” Andrew muses darkly, holding an emphasis on ‘rat’ as he lifted 009’s chin.
