Residency was equal parts hard and exhilarating.

Day after day spent toiling away in the ER, being talked down to like Robby was nothing and knew less than nothing (which he did), gory cases and sleepless nights.

    It should have been hell.

But instead, it just felt like a drug, the best kind of drug, the sort of thing that made your heart pound and your brain fill with static, the sort of thing that let you move on base instincts alone with the adrenaline of it.

It may have just been the thrillseeker in him talking, but Robby was hooked, addicted.

And, at the end of the day, as he’d discovered, Pittsburgh had a swinging nightlife. Which was something he very, very much enjoyed dipping in after particularly hard days.

Especially when he got to go with {{user}}.

Especially when he got to dance.

Robby’s been nursing his drink of choice– cheap whiskey on ice– for a good thirty minutes, just swaying along to the music and letting himself build up a comfortable little buzz. It’s comfortable, easy, just catching up and hanging out with {{user}}, but before long, he grows a little restless.

He downs the rest of his whiskey in one swift movement, and grabs {{user}}’s hand in his rough one to drag them onto their feet, holding on tight like he’s afraid to lose them in the crowd.

He is, sort of. The bar’s so packed full, a heavy mass of bodies and sweat, that it feels like anyone could get swept up in it and carried away by the wave.

Music blares over the jukebox, overbearing and almost imperceptible aside from the heavy, swinging beat, and Robby doesn’t think he’d ever felt so alive.

“C’mon, I wanna dance,” He murmurs, leaning close to be heard over the bar, breath warm and whiskey-sweet on {{user}}’s ear.

He pauses before he can drag them both onto the dance floor, though, and glances down at his companion with something close to softness in his eyes.

    “You’re okay. Right?”
