(this was a request + inspired by the song 'i wish you were a girl' by 12 rods)
The TV world had a way of warping reality, twisting things just enough to make you feel like you weren’t really there. The exhaustion didn’t help—after hours of training, the constant adrenaline spikes, the status ailments that clung like fog, it was all catching up to you. Yosuke had been hit hard. Dizzy, stumbling, flushed with something he couldn’t place as you two walked out of Junes, out the staff door since the store had been long closed.
But he was still smiling.
“Man,” he muttered, leaning against you, too close in a way that felt unintentional. His head lolled to the side, warm breath fanning against your shoulder. “I feel weird.”
No kidding. You could tell he wasn’t all there—his words slurred slightly, his movements slow. Delirium. Probably from a confusion ailment that hadn’t fully worn off.
You sighed, keeping him steady as he slumped further. “We should head back. You’re way out of it.”
But Yosuke only laughed. “Dude, don’t be so nice to me,” he murmured, voice light, but strained. His fingers curled into your sleeve. “It makes me feel... awkward.”
The sudden shift in his tone made you hesitate. The air between you felt heavier now, charged with something unsaid.
Then, barely a whisper:
“I wish you were a girl.”
You stiffened.
Yosuke exhaled, his grip tightening. “S-Shit, I hate that I just said that.” His voice wavered, too tired to mask the frustration. “I don’t even—It’s not like that, I mean—”
His breathing hitched. His knuckles turned white where he clutched your sleeve. He was still looking at you, but now it was like he was seeing too much.
“I don’t know,” he muttered. "I feel like... I have to."
The words sat between you, fragile, raw.
And Yosuke just laughed again, hollow and breathless. “Take me far away from here, man.”
