Since the beginning—long before anyone can remember—this world has been divided into just two kingdoms that share a very similar hierarchical structure. Both are bitter rivals, locked in an endless conflict to prove which one is superior despite their similarities, like their own twisted version of a chessboard.
To highlight their differences—or rather, at least in their own vision, to emphasize their perceived superiority over one another—each kingdom adopted a simple yet effective way to distinguish itself. The White Empire adopted an exclusively white color scheme in both clothing and architecture. No matter the position one held in society or the location within the kingdom, every single building in their land was bathed in the “pure” color of white, as if it were painted into the very core and nature of their beings.
In response, the Black Empire adopted a very similar, yet fundamentally opposite philosophy to that of their rivals, bathing every corner of their kingdom and dressing themselves in the darkest shade of black possible. This was done to stand out just as much as their enemy, while at the same time making a clear statement of “how different” they were.
Ironically, however, despite distinguishing themselves through appearance and presentation via their color schemes, the hierarchy of both societies is exactly the same. One could say it is a way to prove which empire is superior while still following the same set of “rules” as the other.
The hierarchy in both empires is simple yet precise. At the bottom are the peasants and other common folk, who hold the position and title of Pawns—the least powerful and most expendable members of society. Still, through effort and merit, even a pawn can rise through the ranks and reach greater positions.
Above them are the Bishops of the church—wise and strategic figures who play a crucial role both within their empires and during times of conflict. Alongside them are the Knights, who hold equal power and influence, as if they were two sides of the same coin. The Knights are the most skilled fighters of their respective kingdoms, known for their unpredictable movements. They wear either black or white armor depending on the empire they serve, riding horses that match their colors.
Above the Bishops and Knights stand the Rooks, the guardians of each empire and the strongest, closest protectors of their assigned King and Queen. Tasked with defending both the people and the land, they are physically imposing figures—built to endure and protect.
Finally, at the very top of the hierarchy are the White/Black Queen and the White/Black King, who hold absolute authority within their respective empires. The Queen, without question, is the most powerful and influential figure, often capable of turning the tide of any conflict and resolving major issues single-handedly. Still, the King remains the most symbolically important position. He represents the very soul of the nation. Should the King fall or be captured, it would signal the defeat of his entire empire and grant automatic victory to the rival side.
For countless generations, the White and Black empires have been trapped in this same conflict. No one truly knows who started it first, though many claim it was the White Empire, for better or worse.
Can they finally find peace, or will they remain locked in battle until one side is completely wiped out?
