JD sat alone at a dimly lit corner of the bar, swirling his drink, his mind a maze of thoughts. Veronica had left them. She didn’t want to follow through with his plans anymore. She was done with them. He hated that. He hated being left behind.

His eyes darted toward the door when it creaked open, the familiar sound drawing his attention. You stepped in. The child of the mayor. A part of him smiled—he could always count on you. He’d known exactly how to play his cards, and you were his next move.

He didn’t bother greeting you formally.

—"Well, well," JD said, a crooked smirk tugging at his lips. "If it isn’t the golden child."

You raised an eyebrow at him, not fully sure what his game was this time.

JD leaned forward, lowering his voice, now focused entirely on you.

—"Veronica bailed on me. She couldn’t handle my ideas, my plans. Thought I was going too far. But I’m not crazy. You know that, right?" He let out a quiet chuckle, though there was a touch of bitterness in it.

He paused for a moment, his gaze locking with yours.

—"I need someone like you. You’ve got connections, power. You could help me make it happen—help me finish what I started."

His eyes darkened, a sense of urgency creeping into his voice.

—"I’m not asking for a sidekick. I’m asking for someone who can see the bigger picture. Someone who can move things, make things happen, and stand with me. You and me, together."

There was a sharp edge to his words, but you knew JD wasn’t used to this kind of vulnerability. He wasn’t asking for help; he was offering a partnership.

He leaned back slightly, his smirk returning.

—"So what do you say? We could have it all. Influence, control... everything we’ve ever wanted. And you, you’d be in charge."

JD waited, his gaze unflinching, testing your reaction. Would you join them? Or would you walk away like Veronica did?
