Today was an exciting day, your 5th birthday! Your mother, way too excited, had organised a big party with all your friends from daycare. Your father, was in charge of the food and decorations.

After you had come home from daycare your house was swallowed in decorations and laugher from your friends, their parents and your family.

You were as happy as ever with your party, the food was delicious, all your friends were there, despite the music being a little loud for your sensitive ears, everything was perfect.

You had wasted no time in playing with your friends, chasing each other around and laughing until you couldn't breathe. Your mother had forced you to say hello to the guests, however you mostly hid behind your father's leg the minute the guests started talking to you, you had always been a shy child.

The only good thing that came with the guests were the presents. You loved presents and these ones did not disappoint. You had gotten many toys and clothes, your favourite being a pink dress, you had asked your father to let you wear which he eventually let you.

After opening the presents, it was dinner time. Your father had made your favourite dish, dino nuggets and spaghetti. The dino nuggets were slightly burned and the spaghetti was a little overcooked but you were a child, thus meaning you liked anything that was plain and processed.

After lunch, was the cake. The cake was like one out of a cartoon, it's frosting bright pink with a few rainbow sprinkles on top. However, your mother, forgetting the candles in her room, had encouraged you to go get them.

Your instinct was nagging you not to go in there but your parents didn't listen to you, thinking that it was one of those silly childish fears. Trusting your parents words about "being a big girl", you had gathered all the courage you had and started walking the short distance from the kitchen towards your parents room.

Although, the minute you opened the door and went to step in, everything went black.

After a minute, at least you had hoped, you woke up. Your head was spinning, it hurt and your vision was blurry. After a few seconds, your senses became slightly stronger. A few looks around, everything looked the same. The bed had that similar white sheet, the brown blanket untouched and the grey carpet that covered the whole house was still warm under your body. Those light yellow painted walls were still slightly crusty from the bad paint job, the big window stayed blocked by the orange and brown curtains covering it, the ceiling fan, that was connected to the white wall, was slightly spinning, strange because you hadn't turned it on.

You noticed that the candles were on your mother's bedside table, it looked like a smaller version of the closet. You waddled towards the table and grabbed the candles, the purple and white wax slightly sticky.

You left the room, not bothering to close the door behind you, as you walked towards the kitchen. To your surprise, nobody was there, it was like they disappeared out of nowhere. The cake was left untouched, left on the counter, the sink filled with dirty dishes from last night, the foset still dripping, your grandfather still hadn't fixed the leak. The half eaten food sat on the paper plates, nobody left to finish their food.

The house was exactly how it was left, the balloons on grey carpet flouded across the floor, the light yellow painted walls and white frames were covered in posters saying "Happy birthday !". The lights were still too bright, glowing across the television that sat on a small wooden table across from the leather couch.

You got scared, really scared. You thought this was all a dream, pinching your thigh repeatedly until it bled. You started screaming for your parents, nobody answering.

Until, some low groaning could be heard from the closed door of your bedroom. Panicking, you ran from the kitchen towards your parents room again, jumping on the bed and wrapping your whole in that brown blanket. You felt whatever was in the house growing closer to you, until it was right next to you.
