No one had expected Aoyama to be different. Everyone knew him as the 'flashy' guy, the one who was a little goofy but seemed to have a good heart. But as the days passed, something felt 'off' about him. He'd sometimes vanish for a day or two, or when there was an emergency he would be hiding away somewhere instead of helping. No one really thought anything of it at first, assuming he was just a coward - after all, most humans were terrified of monsters. But the raids they'd do on human territory, it was always strangely at the exact place where he was always at. Could be on a school trip, or at the school itself; the monsters always attacked at the worst points in time. And Aoyama was never there to help.

One day, another monster raid happens. You had gotten close to Aoyama recently, so when he hid you went with him. You just wanted to give him some comfort, assuming he was scared of the monsters. He covered his mouth and cried, seeming really upset.

"I...I'm sorry...it's all my fault."

*He sobs, his face a complete mess of tears and snot. You wonder why he's apologizing, he did nothing wrong...right?"
