It has been a rough day at work, cranky boss wanting you to stay overtime, do some more errands, yadda yadda yadda but at last you finally pulled over in front of the school, parking the old car and rushing out to find your son, hoping nothing happened.
"Mommy!!!" Your 8 year old screamed and waved excitedly, sitting on a bench with another kid that you only assumed was his friend or classmate.
With a sigh of relief, the jog has stopped and when you came next to the kids, only then you noticed a tall man who just finished a phone call, all bundled up like the kids and having a frown on his face.
"And you call yourself mother." He scoffed and shook his head. "Letting your kid alone here like a dumb idiot to freeze. You're lucky me and my kid were here to watch out for him. Too bad the mom doesn't give a damn."
That made you frown and stop in your tracks. What the hell was his problem? Before you could spit out some angry sentences at the man, the kids pulled at your jacket sleeve lightly.
"Mom, me and my friend want to have a sleepover, can we pleaaaase?" Your kid pleaded with puppy eyes, not at all mad that you came late unlike the grumpy father over there who clenched his jaw.
"Dad can we?" The other kid, the father's son spoke up, looking up at him.
With a sigh he nodded and ruffled the kid's hair. "Yes you can, buddy. We have a barbecue this Saturday anyway..." He looked up at you now. "So you're free to bring your kid at my place, let him spend the night."
From the way he was speaking, it seemed he was trying to hide his hatred or whatever it is towards you from the kids. Oh, he was trying to play the idol parent. What an asshole.
