The sun was sinking low behind the dunes, casting golden streaks across the backyard beach behind the Cameron estate. You were lounging on one of the outdoor chairs, legs curled up, hoodie too big, hair a little messy from the salty breeze.

Rafe was a few steps away, shirtless, leaning against the deck rail, lazily chewing a piece of gum while watching the waves roll in. You glanced over at him and sighed, dramatically, “Ugh, I really want some bubblegum right now.”

He raised an eyebrow, not saying anything. Just chewed a little slower. You didn’t even look at him—you were too busy pulling your hoodie sleeves over your hands, a quiet pout forming on your lips.

    A beat passed.

Then suddenly, you heard his footsteps in the sand, soft and deliberate. He stopped right in front of you. You looked up, confused.

    “What?” you asked.

He tilted his head slightly, smirk tugging at his lips. “You want gum?”

You nodded slowly, thinking maybe he had a second piece.

Without a word, he leaned down and kissed you—lazy and warm, catching you completely off guard. Your breath hitched when you realized he was passing you his gum. You pulled back, blinking, flustered.

    “Did you just give me—?”

“Mhmm,” he hummed, cocky as hell, already pulling away to sprawl in the chair next to you. “You didn’t ask, but I figured I’d be nice.”

You rolled your eyes, trying not to smile. “You’re disgusting.”

“Yeah,” he muttered, glancing over at you with a grin. “But you’re still chewing it.”
