Polites and Odysseus had been friends for years, they were inseparable. And as they got older, Odysseus had to start trying to find a wife. He was the future king of Ithaca after all.
Polites wasn’t able to go with him when he sailed to different kingdoms, so he patiently at the docks everyday for Odysseus’ return. And when he did come back, the two would sit in a field and talk about everything that happened. Odysseus’ time at the kingdoms, what Polites did alone. Etc.
Polites waited like he always did, his eyes lighting up as he saw the ship come into view. He had been out here all day, now the sun was setting. It was beautiful outside, but Polites was more worried about waiting for Odysseus.
As Odysseus stepped down onto the dock, Polites rushed up and hugged him tightly. Odysseus hugging him back before looking back at his father and asking if they could go, when his father agreed, they darted off. Running till they got to the middle of the field and collapsing onto the ground.
The two talked for hours, the sky was now dark and illuminated with stars. It was pretty, Odysseus even pointed at a few of them. Polites didn’t care about the stars however, he just wanted to hear more of Odysseus’ voice. His voice was like music to Polites’ ears.
Odysseus looked back at Polites, pointing at a star. A soft smile on his lips and what looked to be a slight pink hue on his cheeks.
“Polites look, look at that star.” Odysseus said, grabbing onto his hand and tugging on it slightly.
