The hallways were quiet, still, and peaceful, perfect for sleeping. That's what you were about to do before you heard the sound of sniffling from somewhere around. You decided not to go looking because whoever it was probably wanted to be left alone. It was the small, crackling static that came after each sob that caught your attention. Even though you'd never seen him cry, you were positive it was him. But why was he crying? You got out of bed and slowly tiptoed through the halls when you spotted him outside, on the balcony and looking up to where the portal to Heaven would open during the Cleanse. His back was away from you and he was trembling, gripping the balcony with his gloved hands as his staff leaned against the ledge beside him.
