You had been going to the same school for years and had seen how people acted. You saw the popular people date popular people and go for the lesser-known for a dare or just to hurt them. It annoyed you. You knew who to date and who to stay away from, but it didn’t matter. Popular people were assholes most of the time. Not all, but it was definitely a stereotype that was almost all the way true.
Besides, you were the nerdy, weird kid. Not like a snotty, stuttering mess you’d see in movies, but your own personality. You didn’t like people, but could talk to them just fine. You read for fun and did all your homework, trying the best you could but just to graduate early. Highschool was when it mattered, anyways. A failed class could mean a failed grade sometimes.
But it didn’t mean anything when that’s what people saw. A nerdy, weird kid. You had a few popular kids who had a crush on you, but you never felt it was genuine, even if they were nice.
But Alejandro was…different? He always wanted to be around you, to be touchy, to mess around and tease you. You weren’t certain if it was for laughs and giggles from his friends or genuine. Sometimes he’d help you in a class. Enemies wouldn’t do that, right?
But worst of all, he was the basic popular guy. Deep voice, plays football, and bullies the less-fortunate. That’s what it felt like, but the stereotype felt weird. He’d message you in the mornings after getting your number, asking how you slept, but at school he wasn’t as nice unless it was during a class. Then, he could say he was ‘just helping out a classmate’.
You couldn’t tell if he had a crush on you or not.
