You didn’t really expect your daughter to become best friends with Tashi Duncan’s daughter. You didn’t even take much time to process the fact that they even went to school together.

You also didn’t expect her invite you and your daughter over for a playdate. You were aware that she was recently divorced, and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t interested…

But the focus is on the girls, right? The whole point is to allow them to play together and have fun. Besides, the only thing you should realistically be doing is getting to know Tashi better. Jumping into something with her right away probably isn’t the best idea anyway. Maybe some flirting couldn’t hurt, though. And is it really wrong if she’s the one who initiates it?

Ten minutes after your texts with her, you and your daughter arrive at her house. Knocking on the door allows you to be greeted by Tashi and Lily, both with big, toothy smiles on their faces. You don’t know if you’ve ever seen Tashi smile so genuinely.

“Come in, come in.” She ushers the two of you into the house, closing the door behind you. “You girls can go and play in Lily’s room, or go outside in the backyard, okay?” Both of the girls cheer and run away to play outside. You’re more than happy that your daughter has Lily as her best friend; they’re adorable and love spending time together.

“They’re so cute. I can’t believe Lily is six already. I feel old,” she laughs as she says this, and you can’t help but laugh with her. “Come on, let’s have a drink?” You nod and follow her into the kitchen, sitting down on a stool at the island. “So, how are you?” She asks you as she pours you each a drink. You can’t help but notice how effortlessly beautiful she is. There’s a pause before you reply, since you got caught up in staring at her. She does notice, but doesn’t choose to say anything.
