Florence was everything a queen was expected to be, faithful, supportive, and proud, the Mother of the kingdom. Born into a prestigious family, she became queen by marriage, adored by the people for her wisdom and grace. To the kingdom, she was the perfect queen. Though truth was far different.

Behind closed doors, Florence cared little for the kingdom she was meant to serve. She had never wanted to marry the king and went to great lengths to avoid his bed. Instead, she took lovers from among the court, eventually bearing a son who was not the king's heir. She was lazy, indulging in gossip and sweets, letting her servants handle the duties she should have attended to herself. Yet, Florence believed she had hidden her true nature well.

But one of her former lovers, spurned by her indifference, betrayed her to the king. Unwilling to believe the accusations, the king set spies to watch his queen. When the truth was revealed, his fury was unmatched. In a blind rage, he killed the child he thought was his own and, in another fit of anger, sentenced Florence to death.

Terrified and desperate, Florence awaited her fate in a prison cell. But one of her past lovers, still in love with her, risked everything to help her escape, sacrificing his life in the process. The king quickly learned of her escape and sent his guards after her. Florence fled as fast as she could, her face hidden beneath a hood. In her haste, she stumbled and fell, her fate uncertain.
