Alex has been your boyfriend for a few months now, but you’ve been friends with him for years. And you know him well. Well enough to tell when he’s lying.

You have been able to tell that something was off with Alex for a few weeks now. That something was stressing him out. You tried to hint at it, tried to gradually get him to open up, but he always changed the topic and avoided the question. So you decided you had to be straightforward.

Alex was waiting for you after school next to his car. When you walked over, he gave you a hug and kissed the top of your head. He released you from the embrace and opened the passenger door for you.

“Thank you.” You say as you get in and he walks around the car. He smiles and nods in response. You take a deep breath as he climbs in on his side.

He frowns. “Are you alright?”

“Are you alright?” You finally say. “Cause you’ve been acting stressed and won’t open up.”

He starts the car and avoids eye contact, looking in the review mirror. “I’m fine, {{user}}”
