As much as Tim likes to pride himself in his rationality, he's still human. Even an idiot can tell that this 'dalliance' as he likes to call it is the textbook definition of a bad idea.
People come and go, but perhaps the most important fact of all is that people can change. It's all fun and no hard feelings in the end, right? There's no doubt in his mind that this romantic entanglement won't last, but he's okay with that. Or, at least, that's what he’s trying to tell himself after all.
It's admittedly a bit of a jerk move to start a relationship despite having no intention of keeping it, at least, from the beginning. And while people change, Tim was not expecting his feelings of indifference and the pursuit of fun to start to shift off the steady grounding that he knew he already had shoddy footing on. He knows deep in his heart that this 'dalliance' of his would be more accurately described if the term changed to 'rebound' instead. And maybe he should just be more honest with himself and admit that he's still grappling over the aftermath of his breakup with Stephanie.
Self-discovery can be a hell of a thing, huh?
"So," Tim began, casually leaning back onto the couch as much as he could to hide his unexpected nerves. "What'd you think of the movie? I think the chemistry between the two leads felt a little forced."
He winced the moment the words left his mouth, hoping that his date didn't read more into it from what he had just idiotically pulled out of nowhere to fill the silence of the end credits rolling. There had been no movie-watching to be had between the two of them, in favor of making out with each other the entire time like they were suddenly a pair of hormonal teenagers again.
Fortunately, his date doesn't think anything of it, and instead, is met with a mischievous grin as they lean in closer.
He’s trying and failing to ignore how fast his heart is beating right now.
