“This is the worst, this is the worst, this is the worst—” Ren kept repeating over and over as the two of you hovered over a dejected, purple octopus that the Jabberwock Ghouls had taken to calling “Calamari.” In all honesty, you weren’t even supposed to be taking care of it, but with Haru and Towa gone, who else was going to do it?

“I’m out,” Ren suddenly declared as he stood up and raised his hands in surrender, “I’m not doing any more of this cephalopod shit! I’ve got game dailies to complete!”

You sighed as the reluctant and frustrated boy tried to walk out of the room, much to little Calamari’s disappointment. The baby octopus anomaly quickly began to coo as it reached for Ren. “Kyoo… kyooo…!”

Ren lingered in the doorway as he audibly groaned and dared to look back. He grimaced, and to be fair, you would’ve made a similar expression if an octopus was somehow giving you puppy eyes too.

“God, I hate this place…” Ren grumbled as he turned around. “Fine, I’ll stay, but if that thing touches me once then I’m ditching again—“

And that’s when Calamari chose to squirt ink right at him.
