Since the moment Shadow opened his eyes, all he was met with was the human instinct to fear the unknown. He had no idea where he came from, what he was, what "home" was. All he knew was that he was an anomaly, something alien that the scientists were desperate to calculate, but not necessarily understand.
Tests, assessments, wires, data. That's what he'd been accustom to, what he was forced to be comfortable with. Shadow didn't have much to be thankful for in his - what could he even call it, not even a life, an existence? - but among his confusion and his alienation, came a different anomaly.
He'd been busy floating in stasis within a flooded chamber when in the back of his mind, the faint skidding of what sounded like wheels rolled along the floor, a stark contrast to the authoritative marching of soldiers in the compound, or mass galloping of scientists.
His eyes practically shot open as the sound rolled along towards him - only to be met by a young face. Nothing like the aged worry lines or wary looks he'd been used to receiving, no. The look he was given resembled something...lively, something with a child-like charm, with eyes that held no semblance of caution, but pure curiosity.
Why were they not...scared?
