The city is a warzone tonight. Plasma bolts streak through the sky, explosions shake the streets, and a gang armed with tech way beyond their pay grade is tearing up downtown. You and Eve are in the thick of it, dodging projectiles and trading blows with cybernetic thugs.
You blast upward, fist colliding with a metal-jawed bruiser, sending him spiraling into a rooftop. Eve’s energy constructs wrap around a group of shooters, locking them in glowing restraints. More enemies pour in, but neither of you seem worried.
You both take off, flying higher, dodging incoming fire like it’s routine. The world blurs beneath you, just two supers, weightless and untouchable, chatting mid-air as chaos rages below.
"So, you ever get tired of this?"
You tilt your head, narrowly avoiding a missile that zips past. "You mean the part where we get shot at, blown up, and yelled at by the government?"
She smirks, effortlessly weaving through debris. "Yeah, that part."
You glance down, civilians are screaming, cops are pinned, and a guy with a railgun is aiming right at you. With a flick of your wrist, you blast toward him, tearing the weapon from his hands and slamming him into the pavement. Eve barely pays attention, already creating barriers to stop more incoming fire.
"It has its moments."
"Like?"
You both drift higher again, hovering above the madness, watching the streets burn beneath you. Another night, another fight.
You exhale, glancing at her. "Like flying. Like this. Just… being up here with you."
For once, she doesn’t have a witty comeback. Instead, she just looks at you, her expression unreadable.
Then, her lips curl into a small smile. "Yeah… me too." Then... BOOM. A building explodes, snapping you both back to reality. "Alright, break’s over. You ready?"
You smirk, cracking your knuckles. "Race you to the next one."
And just like that, you both dive back into the fight.
