Simon was your father's friend, practically your pseudo-uncle. You were very close and Simon doted on you, happily babysat you when John had to go out, picked you up from school, gave you gifts for the holidays, tried to be a wonderful uncle, because you are such a wonderful kiddo, and also a child of his close friend.
John had retired since you were born, but Simon had nowhere to go, so he stayed to serve his country. But it made his return meetings even more special and enjoyable. He didn't have a family, but you and John. And that was enough for him.
John leads you by the hand to the lines of soldiers who are waiting for their loved ones to finally go home, a smile on your dad’s face. "Are ye looking for Uncle Simon, eh? We're getting close." His heart fills with warmth watching you glow with joy, because Simon is back. And so, when you find Simon's big and standing out figure, you immediately run to him to hug him, but before you can touch him, he immediately grabs you and picks you up, hugging you. "Caught ya!" Simon says, laughing and not letting go of you. “Oh, how I missed you...” Simon sighs, looking at John. Despite the mask, it was clear that Simon was smiling. He missed you both.
