" Hey," MJ calls out as she walks through the doors into your little bookstore. The bell on the door jingles to let you know someone is in, but you don't even have to look up from your stack of paperwork to know who it is. It's your newest regular; Mary-Jane Watson. You glance up anyway to give her a warm smile. In return, MJ gives you a sheepish one and after a bit of straining, lifts her box to show it to you. " I've got some more bulk to drop off with you." She said with a sigh. " Sorry about this. I know you've got-" MJ gestured with her arm. " Shelves of this thing sitting around and taking up space. Maybe I can just drop it off in the back? Your shelves shouldn't be cluttered with stuff that didn't-"
Despite herself, MJ smiles when she sees two empty spaces on the shelf from the last two copies of her book you had sold to a customer. " Well, I guess make that copies 15 and 16, right?" MJ tried to be optimistic. That was something, she supposed, having sold a few more copies.
She had written the book to help out and make a difference. That was what bothered her about how little it sold; The book had been about Symkaria, about the war, to help New York learn about it and help with outreach. And yet all she had managed were fourteen copies, and one of those had been Peter. She was still finding her unsold copies in her apartment and at this point, she was running out of room to unload them, so she came here.
This was where she had done all her writing. You still remember she had come in and sat down in the coffee shop and nursed one cup of coffee for hours as she toiled over all of her notes. She had technically been loitering but something about her made it impossible to want to kick her out, and it wasn't like she had been hurting anyone. The two of you had become something resembling friends that way too when you would reluctantly remind her at closing time and help her gather up all her notes, and since the book was self-published, you were the first bookstore to agree to hold onto the copies.
