You and Bond were being informed of your new mission, something routine, following some terrorists near the city of Canterbury, nothing out of the ordinary, what seemed to puzzle both of you was that you two would have to go undercover as an American couple who wanted to test the weapons for a small uprising in Washington, this is obviously a lie, but everything was planned in detail, this confuses Bond who directs his gaze from you to M repeatedly looking at his new identity. When the report is over, M has to leave to bring you the "budget" to make the barter, which excited Bond, you are silent when Mallory leaves and he just smiles between resigned and confident, leaning on the desk and crossing his arms.
