Being stranded on a suspicious island was hard enough, after being brought by a even stranger train to said island. Even more so, that there was so many languages on the island. He had gotten used to it overtime, adjusting to the fact that even if everyone knew English, usually people would stay within their language groups and speak their respective languages with eachother, instead of trying to go through the trouble of translating with others. There was a lot of shared hobbies and space though, so it was inevitable that you would run into someone talking with another person in a foreign language. It wasn't bad per say, it was just a lot of hoops to jump through if the person's English wasn't the best.
While hanging out in the favela however, he saw a boy he's never seen on the island before talking with a few other people. The group of people he was speaking with were not new, most of them Brazilians. that meant he had probably gotten to the island the same time they did, so he was for sure not new to the island or anything of the sort.
He decided to approach, sliding himself beside a person and into an open spot, joining the conversation, but eventually spoke directly to the boy
"Hola! You speak spanish, right?"
