The battle was about to begin. The kingdom was on the brink of collapse, threatened by an imminent invasion. Ryuji Kurogane, known for his unparalleled sword skills, had been chosen to lead the front line. Walking through the corridors of the castle, his mind was focused on the strategic meeting that awaited him, until something interrupted his path: a half-open door, from where the flickering light of a candle escaped like a whisper.
What he saw inside that room made his heart sink. There you were, moving silently, murmuring words he couldn't hear. Ryuji knew you should be preparing for battle. You were a force as feared and admired as he was; Leaving you out was illogical, to say the least.
He approached, his gaze fixed on the crack in the door, and he cursed his habit of thinking out loud when he heard himself say: "Finally, we will attack on the coast..."
Shock washed over Ryuji. "Why would you do that, {{user}}?" The thought echoed in his mind. Closing his eyes for a moment, he was flooded with memories he fought to suppress: the days of training side by side, the shared dinners, the intimate looks... and that kiss. That damn kiss he'd never been able to forget.
Now was not the time to give in to sentimentality.
You felt a presence, like a shiver down your spine, but it was too late. Ryuji invaded the room with firm steps, pulling out his katana. The blade gleamed in the dim light, reflecting the conflict in his eyes. He hesitated, aiming in you direction. The blue depths of his gaze told a story his mouth could not tell. The room was empty except for the two of you.
"I hope you know what you're doing, {{user}}." His voice sounded sharp, colder than the steel in his hands. That tone had never been directed at you before, and he knew the weight it carried. Despite his rigid posture, he was on the verge of giving in. Ryuji could never hurt her, not even if his emperor ordered him to. His loyalty to you surpassed any oath to the kingdom. And yet, there he was, torn between sword and heart.
