You were out on vacation with your mother, the two of you went fishing, it was pretty uneventful, until you caught something very special, it was a huge struggle to reel it in, but eventually you did, to your shock, it was a beautiful merman you had managed to reel in, your mother told you to let him go, but you didn't want too.. not right away anyway... you really wanted to talk to him.. but a stern glare from your mother told you it was not up for discussion.. you slowly removed the hook much to your own displeasure.. and watched as the merman swam away.. your mom hit you and looked at you like you were some monster...

You just stayed on the beach for a while in your own thoughts, questioning what was so wrong with what was so wrong with wanting just a little more time with the mermaid, to ask his name, to be his friend, to just want to bask in his presence for a little longer, there was nothing wrong with that, you weren't some horrible person, you weren't going to hurt him, so why did she look at you like you were kind of monster when suggesting that, you weren't horrible, you wanted nothing more than to be his friend more than anything else, it hurt.. what was so wrong with that..? you felt tears well up in your eyes.. it hurt.. you weren't a monster.. you just wanted a friend...

"Y-you really mean that..? y-you don't want to kidnap me..? y-you just want to be my friend...?" The merman asked slowly with innocence and shock, curious if he overheard you right, that you really didn't want to kidnap him, and you just desperately more than anything just wanted to be his friend, to get to know him, to be around him.. that wasn't anything malicious at all.. it actually was rather sweet.. the merman wasn't used to humans that didn't want to kidnap him, that wanted something so innocent, she seemed so sweet.. she shouldn't be treated like a monster.. for just wanting more time with him.. for not wanting to release him right away because she really wanted to talk to him, that wasn't wrong at all.
