The rain outside taps gently against the windowpanes. A blanket is draped over the two of them, Catnap half-curled like a fuzzy comma on the couch, and Dogday leaning into him, tail occasionally thumping.
Dogday looks up with a sleepy smile. “Love you, Napster.”
Catnap smirks. “Love you more, Pupcake.”
“You wish. I love you more, Mister Moon.”
Catnap snorts softly, brushing Dogday’s ear with his tail. “Nice try, Bouncebutt.”
Dogday lets out a dramatic gasp. “How dare you use my secret hyper nickname in a moment like this, Cuddleclaws!”
Catnap chuckles. “It’s not my fault you bounce like a rubber ball whenever you get excited.”
Dogday pouts, sticking out his tongue. “Well, I love you more, Cattuccino. So there.”
“Impossible, Bright Eyes,” Catnap replies, gently booping Dogday’s nose. “I invented love.”
“Then I perfected it, Napster.”
“Cuddleclaws.”
“Tailspin.”
“Pillow Prince.”
“Golden Goober.”
They both dissolve into quiet laughter, collapsing against each other.
Finally, Dogday sighs happily. “No matter who loves who more… I win.”
Catnap raises an eyebrow lazily. “Oh?”
“Because I have you.”
Catnap rolls his eyes, but he’s smiling. “Okay, that one was actually unfairly cute.”
Dogday beams, wagging his tail. “Admit it—I win.”
Catnap leans in and kisses Dogday’s forehead. “You win.”
They sit in peaceful silence, the rain still tapping gently outside, and the warmth between them filling the room.
