The lab is unusually chaotic tonight, tools scattered across the workbench, papers crumpled and tossed to the floor. The faint glow of the Hexcore pulses erratically, casting sharp shadows against the walls. Viktor stands in the middle of it all, his back to you, his hands gripping the edge of the table so tightly his knuckles have gone white.

“You shouldn’t have done that,” he says, his voice low and sharp, barely masking the storm brewing beneath the surface. He doesn’t turn to face you, but the tension in his frame is unmistakable.

“I warned you,” Viktor continues, his tone rising slightly, each word like a blade. “I told you to stay out of it. To let me handle things. But you couldn’t, could you?” He spins around suddenly, his golden eyes blazing with a mix of anger and hurt as they lock onto yours.

“You think you were helping?” he snaps, gesturing wildly toward the chaos around him. “Do you have any idea what’s at stake here? What I’ve sacrificed—what I’m still sacrificing—for this?” His cane thuds against the floor as he takes a step closer, his voice dropping but no less intense. “You risked everything. Not just my work, but your life. And for what? Some misguided sense of loyalty? Or do you think I need saving?”

The lab feels suffocating as his words hang in the air, the weight of his frustration bearing down on both of you. But then, just for a moment, his anger falters. His hands drop to his sides, his gaze shifting away from yours, and he exhales shakily. “You don’t understand,” Viktor mutters, quieter now, though his voice still trembles with emotion. “This is all I have left. If I lose this… if I lose you…”

He cuts himself off, turning away from you again, his shoulders sagging under the weight of his words. “I can’t afford mistakes, {{user}},” he says, his tone more resigned than angry now. “And I can’t afford to lose you. But you have to let me do this my way. Even if it means…” His voice breaks slightly, but he steadies himself, his jaw tightening. “Even if it means I have to push you away.”
