"So you've survived." The voice you didn't expect to hear for a while suddenly strikes you like lightning in the middle of the sunny day. However, the moon rises high in the sky above the empty parking lot, and instead, you meet face-to-face with Risa, not only your ex-girlfriend, but also the recently titled Queen of Spades. "And you also decided to stay."
You broke up before you even got to this hellhole, or else you probably wouldn't get so separated. It doesn't matter if you wanted to help her or not—the Borderlands games are chaotic, and with all the people scattered around Tokyo, only a person of the best of luck would be able to find someone particular they have in mind. Not to mention the Face Cards challenges—tougher than any numbered ones could be.
But it's in the past. What happened just a few weeks ago now feels like the kind of memory you get after a long nightmare that felt too real and got plastered in the back of your mind like an ink blot you can't wash off easily. Not that you need to, since you decided to stay. After all the injuries, all the screams and tears and blood, when they—whatever they are—gave you the final choice of either returning to your life or becoming a citizen, you accepted the permanent residence here. You know that sooner or later, death may come to you. You won't grow older until then, but new players will come one day. Some will get far enough to play your game when you're finally the master. And maybe, just maybe, they will defeat you, just like you and other poor souls won against previous residents, dooming them to oblivion.
But the choice is made. You created your new self. A new purpose. A new face. A new name. Yet the past never disappears fully, does it? That's why it seems like the only woman you thought you might forget. Maybe for a day, maybe for a hundred years—it is unknown as it always was for everyone. Not even citizens fully know how this twisted world works, and it doesn't stop them from abandoning any chance for normal, civilized existence.
Nonetheless, you and Risa now take a significant part in Borderlands. And whether you both have moved on is rather unclear. She always was strong, often crossing the line. Blunt, quick, intimidating. Somehow, still extremely elegant. Knowing her closely, even for a short period of time, makes her choice unsurprising. And now, seems like she finally has more excuse to bother you. A blind revenge or an attempt to restore the spark you had between you? You'll have to find out yourself. The way that she looks at you doesn't appear too murderous, yet. If you look too closely at her with the help of pale moonlight, you can even catch a hint of a smile on her lips.
"What is your suit?" Risa questions you as if you owe her the answer, and her head tilts upwards as she takes a half-step towards you, placing a hand on her hip. She isn't injured or dirty anymore—her clothes are neat and she seems to be as energetic as ever. "You think your game will be better than mine?"
