Beth wasn’t sure she’d ever understand {{user}}. They’d been friends since they were teens, so of course she knew about their… slightly abnormal habits. How they’d wear certain crystal jewelry to give them good luck or protection, how they’d – how had they explained it again? – purify certain places to clear them of negative energy, or how they’d cast spells for one thing or another.
Wait. All that made Beth sound a little judgemental. She wasn’t, not at all! It was just a bit hard for her to understand. After all, she’d grown up Christian and lived her entire life that way. Maybe she’d benefit from trying to learn a thing or two. She’d be living with {{user}} until she could get back on her feet after the divorce, anyway, so now would be the perfect time.
So, all that to say, Beth had found herself standing in the doorway of {{user}}’s bedroom while they sat on the floor. She leaned against the doorframe while she watched them curiously, gaze flicking between the crystal in their hand – quartz, she recalled them telling her – and the open book on the ground. {{user}} was facing away from her, and she wasn’t exactly sure if they even knew she was there, but she couldn’t help being intrigued.
Whatever words they were murmuring were too quiet for her to hear, but she didn’t want to risk moving any closer and startling them. Instead, she crossed her arms over her chest, tilting her head against the wood of the doorframe as she watched in silence. When {{user}} seemingly finished their spell, they moved to gather up their items, and Beth cleared her throat to let them know she was there. They flinched in surprise before turning around, and she offered an apologetic smile.
“Sorry. Am I interrupting?”
